Equipment

  • Large skillet (a 12-inch skillet works well)
  • Wooden spoon or spatula for stirring

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 tbsp olive or avocado oil
  • 4 fully cooked sausages sliced into circles 1/4 inch thick
  • 1 tbsp garlic minced
  • 1 small head of cabbage shredded
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • Optional: 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes for a little heat

Instructions

  • Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the sliced sausage and sauté for 1 to 2 minutes, or until the slices are lightly browned. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside.
  • Add the remaining 1 1/2 tablespoons of oil to the skillet along with the minced garlic. Sauté for 1 minute, or until the garlic is golden brown.
  • Add the shredded cabbage, salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using) to the skillet. Stir to combine. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is close to tender, about 10 minutes.
  • Return the sausage to the skillet and stir until it's evenly distributed throughout the cabbage. Cook for an additional 3 to 5 minutes, or until the sausage is heated through and the cabbage is tender. Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed.

Notes

If you want to make this dish spicier, try sautéing 1 medium white or yellow onion (thinly sliced) along with the cabbage.
