Ingredients
  

  • 2 Tbsp butter melted
  • 7 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 3 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 loaves 24 oz soft French bread*, cut into 3/4-inch slices

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brush a 13 by 9-inch baking dish with butter.
  • In a shallow dish, whisk together eggs with cinnamon until well blended.
  • Pour in milk, cream, sugar, and vanilla extract, and whisk until combined.
  • Dip slices of French bread into the egg mixture, allowing them to soak briefly.
  • Transfer soaked bread slices to the prepared baking dish, arranging them in rows.
  • Bake uncovered for 40 to 45 minutes, or until cooked through and set.
  • Let cool slightly, then cut into squares and serve with maple syrup or your favorite toppings.

Notes

Use stale French bread for the recipe, as it will absorb the custard mixture better.
If you have leftover custard mixture, you can soak additional slices of bread to use up the liquid.
Feel free to customize the recipe by adding toppings such as fresh fruit, whipped cream, or a sprinkle of powdered sugar.
